Today was my first time using Brillkids with Vada. It's this great reading program that was highly recommended by another mom who also has a child with Down syndrome, not that it really matters one way or another but her advice was taken because she too was using this program with her chromosomally enhanced child.
It seems to be perfect as far as teaching Vada since the program is sight word based. Children who have Down syndrome tend to learn to read a little differently than typical children. Therefore, teaching children to read is said to be easiest on them if they learn sight words before trying to learn phonics. This is why I already believe that we have made the right choice with this particular reading program.
Vada will be taking literacy through GiGi's Playhouse in the Spring of 2013 but for now I will be using Brillkids and the multitude of books that her and I read on a daily basis for her beginning tools in learning how to read.
